Tajalli & Ahlaha: Building an Independent Media Platform

Tajalli (تجلي) is an independent media platform telling the stories of Madinah — its people, visitors, and projects — through a podcast, interviews, and culture content, distributed across YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram. I founded it and run it end to end: choosing stories, planning episodes, preparing guests, supervising production, and engineering distribution. Ahlaha (أهلها), its podcast, is where the system proved itself.

The system

A media operation, not a channel.

Media strategy

One editorial thesis — Madinah's stories, told with respect and craft — and a platform strategy that gives each format a job: YouTube for depth, TikTok for reach, Instagram for identity.

Episode planning

Every episode starts as an angle, not a booking: why this guest, why now, and which moments could stand alone as shorts.

Guest preparation

Pre-interview conversations, a mapped question path, and pacing direction — so the guest arrives at their best story, not just their usual answers.

Long-form production

Full episodes produced and supervised end to end — set, cameras, sound, edit rhythm — where the story lives at full length.

Short-form distribution

Each episode is broken into shorts, each built to stand alone as a story — then released in a sequence designed to feed the full episode.

Performance reading

Watch time, completion, shares, and follower conversion — read after every release and folded back into the next episode's plan.

Documented from TikTok Studio — the episode's lead short.

The guest was already known; the story needed a different way to appear. The episode was engineered before the cameras rolled: a prepared angle, a mapped conversation path, directed pacing — then the episode was decomposed into shorts, each able to stand alone. The lead short ran roughly 197 seconds, long for the format, yet held a 41-second average watch time: the audience didn't stop at the clip, they entered the story. The spread spilled beyond the platform, with audience threads circulating the episode's moments on X.

Beyond the platform

When the episode left the app.

The spread was never the name alone. It was the way the episode was built: prepared angle, directed rhythm, and a decomposition into stories that each earned their own audience.
